  9. Recommendations: Applicants must submit a total of four recommendations: Ecclesiastical, Writing, Speech, and Personal.
    1. Ecclesiastical Recommendation: Applicants must submit a recommendation from their church council (or governing board). Calvin Theological Seminary considers it vital that applicants be members in good standing in their church and that they be confirmed in their calling by the leaders of their church. We encourage church councils to interview applicants prior to completing the recommendation form. We also suggest that churches maintain contact with applicants throughout their time at the seminary to provide support and encouragement. Additionally, we encourage you, the applicant, to maintain contact with your home church so that you may receive their prayer support and keep them informed concerning your progress.

    2. Three Recommendations: Applicants must submit three recommendations (Writing, Speech, and Personal) in addition to the Ecclesiastical Recommendation. Because writing and speaking abilities are vital to both your seminary work and ministry, we encourage you to find individuals, whether professors or others, who are in a position to provide a good evaluation of your ability to write, speak, and succeed academically. The third recommendation (the Personal Recommendation) may come from a professor, an employer, supervisor, fellow church member, or colleague. Th.M. applicants should refer to the special instructions below. Recommenders should mail the forms directly to Calvin Seminary and not return them to the applicants.
